EP REVIEW : Oldfodt by Ondfødt

Symphony of the Abyss

The tenebrous entity. bearing the mysterious name of Ondfødt, has just released in April 2024 a sinister symphony straight from hell. The new EP Oldfodt, unleashed from the abyss, marks the listener with its dark and morbid aspect. With a ferocious sound the new EP presents itself.

The opening track Faensgyte unleashes darkness and sends the listener directly into a macabre atmosphere. This obscure introduction serves as prelude to what awaits. An infernal blast of instruments erupts where guitars, bass and drums collide in a frenetic violent rhythm. And from the begining, the vocals of Owe Inborr grunt like a demon and keep the rhythm in its intensity. A pure spirit of finnish black metal.

The second track No ere jo Satan keeps the same frenetic rhythm accompanied this time by the tireless vocals of Mathias Lillmåns (...and Oceans, Finntroll) that never get tired. Then Ondfødt offers a new version of the title Midnatt (from the album Dödsrikets kallelse, 2019) The guitars and drums create a complex musical structure and keep the intensity high from begining to end.

The fourth track Den sanna unleashes a brutal assault, ripping the listener back to the violent roots of finnish black metal. For a relentless four minutes, the listener is swept away by an avalanche of riffs and blast beat. creating an occult atmosphere, the significant mark of this EP. Without a shadow of doubt, this track is my favourite. Finally the last track Paradiset is a black metal revisited song of the finnish rock singer Rauli Somerjoki.

Through this release, Ondfødt offers us a surprising auditory experience. The EP is a symphony that comes from the abyss where music becomes a ritual to celebrate the darkness. I am convinced, this unborn will be on repeat for weeks to come.
