Album Review: "Anemoia" by Widertod

Two years after their self-titled EP, German black metal band Widertod unleashed their first full-length, an album intituled Anemoia. This album was released June 7th via Vendetta RecordsAnemoia is an album to be savored in its entirety. Each track is a piece of this masterfully crafted compositions.

From the very first notes, Widertod plunges the listeners into an infernal rhythm, an intense sonic tempest where incessant screams offer black metal in all its splendor. With a relentles rhythm, each instrument follows the other in chaotic harmony, creating a dark and intense symphony. Taking the listeners on an unforgettable 49-minute sound experience.

Anemoia is characterized by a complex and elaborate composition, combining melodic and raw black metal with oppressive atmospheres. The tracks Endzeit and Winter Solstice offer a variety of soundscapes, alternating between serenity and hellish rhythms. With this release, Widertod avoids monotony thanks to loud passages and dynamic tempo changes, particularly in Rote Erde. Impressive melodies and a screaming vocal make this track remarkable. The album is enriched by refined instrumental touches such as the piano introduction on Chat Noir and the violin on Endzeit.

In conclusion, Anemoia is a black metal album that skilfully blends complex compositions with atmospheres that are both oppressive and captivating. Moments of calm contrast with hellish outbursts, supported by dynamic passages and subtle instrumental touches, enriching this intense, immersive soundscape.
