Now to Argentina with Cold Visions of Nether, the debut demo from the band Cemetery Dwell. First, released digitally on 9 October 2020, the demo was reissued on CD on 17 December by Portuguese label Brutal Cave Production. featuring three tracks totalling 11:04, this death metal offering reveals the brutal vision of band.
From the introduction of Cold Visions of Nether, the eponymous track, an avalanche of sound descends on the listener. The guitars alternate between cutting riffs and frenetic frenzy, while the bass amplifies the sonic storm with an omnipresent growl. Towards the end of the track, a solo pops up, bringing a semblance of melody to the ambient chaos before plunging back into brutality. On Rampant Bleeding Horizons, the band indulge in some striking changes of pace; a slower, heavier section briefly settles in, all that add a dark atmosphere to the song, before giving way to an acceleration guided by unleashed drums. Finally, Prison of All Light takes a more nuanced approach, building an oppressive atmosphere as the tempo progresses. The subtle transitions between the faster sections and the heavier moments testify to an acute sense of songwrtting.
The guttural vocals are one of the major assets of this demo. Powerful and inexhaustible, it varies between deep growls and accents borrowed from grindcore in a passage on the middle of the track Rampant Bleeding Horizons. The production, despite the rawness, is clear enough to appreciate every detail. The rumbling bass notes, incisive riffs and pounding drums are perfectly audible.
