Pre-release Review: "Crown of Decay" [EP] by Crown of Decay

Crown of Decay will release its debut selftitled EP on May 17th. Aiming to "go back to the roots of Swedish death metal" The recentely formed band unleashes a sonic assault that blends death metal with elements from black metal influenced by thrash/punk.

From the very first seconds of the opening track, the EP bursts forth with a fast and brutal intensity. Its entrance leaves no shadow of a doubt, this is a swedish sound.  I classify the music of this EP as blackened death metal, with its dark atmospheres, a sonic assault of sharp riffs/drums, and unforgettable melodies.

Robin Svensson (Vocals) / William Gallez (Bass) / Markus Jonsson (Guitars)

The pace is generally frenetic, maintaining a violent continuity with riffs that unmistakably scream this is : "Swedish extreme metal". Sometimes the tone may subside, but it quickly picks back up in its fast cadence. The production quality is crucial, as it allows each sound and instrument to be distinguished clearly.

I appreciated the musical structure, but it was particularly in the last track, Crown of Decay, that the EP truly shines. Especially remarkable are the bass and vocals, which are nothing short of phenomenal, providing an epic conclusion to the album. The EP concludes with a melodic instrumental piece, leaving a lasting impression. this new born was mastered by the legendary Magnus "Devo" Andersson (ex-Marduk)

In conclusion, Crown of Decay is a truly intense experience, with its piercing melodies and captivating atmosphere. I found myself listening to it three times in a row, so enamored was with its quality. I am eagerly anticipating what this recently formed band can offer us in the future !
