FULL-LENGTH REVIEW : The Unwritten Pages of Death by Coldborn

One of the bands I've discovered this year is Coldborn. A Black Metal one-man band from Belgium, formed in 2007 by Norgaath. Its debut album Lingering Voidwards was released in 2016, although I've only given it a brief listen. Coldborn released their second album, The Unwritten Pages of Death on May 10 via Final Sacrifice Records.

From the very first seconds of the intro, the notes announce a gloomy atmosphere of the music. The crafted guitar performance and frenetic drumming immediately establish a pure Black Metal sound, showcasing complexity and perfect structure, especially on the tracks Harps of Death Chiming Reverberant and Life’s Aureole No Longer Gleaming. Each part is an impressive display of technical mastery of the Belgian band.

Oppressive melodies appear several times in several passages, taking the compositions to their highest level as on the track Cornucopia Hungers for More. A few moment of calm, accompanied by a cold atmospheres, introduce a mysterious dimension to the music.

The screaming, hellish vocals exude a real fury, This intense vocal performance is breathless during 45-minute album, coupled with the musical complexity, makes The Written Pages of Death a brutal and immersive listening experience, With this new release Coldborn plunges the listeners into the heart of darkness.
