Anomic is a thrash/death metal band formed in 2023 by Fadi Massamiri and Raafat Atasi, hailing from Syria. The band is currently based in the Netherlands and Germany. In November 2023, the duo released their first single, Opacity, in digital format. In July 2024, the two musicians released their first EP, also entitled Opacity.
For 15 minutes, the band delivers an innovative thrash/death metal, blending old-school influences with a modern touch. The EP kicks off with the track Opacity, which hits hard from the very first seconds. Some passages on the track is reminiscent of the Swedish Merciless in their early days, both musically and vocally. Opacity is an EP full of fast riffs, inexhaustible drums and sharp vocals. At times, slow, dark atmospheres add an obscure dimension, as in the track On Deaf Ears.
The band's old-school thrash metal influences are felt throughout the EP, combined with Swedish-style death metal. The tracks, averaging 5 minutes in length, allow the band to present well-crafted structures. The production is impeccable, allowing the listener to appreciate every composition and every note.
In conclusion, I really enjoyed the thrash/death metal offered by Anomic on their first EP. While waiting for the release of their debut album, which I hope will be soon, Opacity is to be added to the list of albums to recommend for the year 2024.
