Album Of The Week: "The Somberlain" by Dissection

This week I'll be flirting with darkness as I listen again and again to The Somberlainn, the debut album by Swedish band Dissection. A seminal album in what would later become Melodic Death/Black Metal. It's an album that any extreme metal fan would have listened to at least once in their life, and I've lost count of the number of times I've played it.

Released in 1993 by No Fashion Records, this cult album captivates with its melodic yet aggressive sound and baroque acoustic interludes. The album is also both technical and direct. Dissection have dedicated this album to Euronymous, an iconic figure on the black metal scene.

My favourites tracks on this album I will mention The Somberlain, A Land Forlorn, The Grief Prophecy / Shadows over a Lost Kingdom et Mistress of the Bleeding Sorrow.
