Chaoshorde is a speed/thrash black Metal band hailing from Greece, formed in 2017. The duo released their debut EP entitled Hordes Arising in 2018, both digitally and on cassette. This EP has been reissued in 2021 as a digipak CD via UK label Vicious Witch Records. This new edition features the three tracks from the original version plus two additional tracks from the split Satanic Hordes (Satan's Acolytes / Chaoshorde) released in 2019. All five tracks have been remastered for the occasion.
The songwrting of Hordes Arising's style is pure, uncompromising speed/thrash black. The guitars are fast and sharp, while the drums pound out a relentless thrash rhythm, all bathed in an malevolent atmosphere. The vocals, energetic and demonic, are particularly striking, especially on Outcasts, where the vocal performance reaches a peak of intensity.
The band also knows how to provide a few moments of respite, as in the introduction to Under the Unholy Banner, but still retain a obscur, oppressive aura. The final section of this track accelerates brutally, and the drums take centre stage with their frenetic pace.
Among the most memorable passages is the bass solo at 3:22 on the track Hordes Are Rising, followed by a powerful rhythm and a striking guitar solo. Another highlight is the solo on Outcasts, in my opinion, it's undoubtedly the most impressive on this recording. My favourite track is Chaoswhore, a demonstration of mastery where every instrument shines, particularly from 1:04, creating an even more gloomy atmosphere. Finally, Winds of Blasphemy stands out for its melodies and intense solo from 2:26 minute, culminating in a hellish scream at 2:58.
