When it comes to Death Metal, I'm convinced that Severe Torture are one of the few bands have never compromised on their initial spirit. With their remarkable discography, the Dutch band has delivered impeccable Death Metal on every release. Albums like Misanthropic Carnage and Slaughtered have become Death Metal classics. And today, after 14 long years, the band have unleashed another beast with their album Torn from the Jaws of Death via Season of Mist. I'm really pleased with this new wave of brutality from Severe Torture.
From the opening track, The Death of Everything, the sonic violence is unleashed and informs listeners "this is going to be a brutal album", just like Severe Torture's previous releases. During 38 minutes, the Dutch plunge us into a merciless and frenetic Death Metal, where each track is a demonstration of creativity and technique. The riffs are sharp and fast, the drums are frenetic. This musical violence knows only brief moments of respite, before returning to his bestial rhythm. And the track Marked by Blood and Darkness is the perfect example of this violent sound. Relentless solos, notably on the tracks Hogtied in Rope and The Pinnacle of Suffering, add to the rhythm a disturbing intensity.
