Pre-release Review: "Krijtland" by Wurgilnõ

After receiving favorable reviews for their debut album De doden rusten niet in vrede, released in June 2023, Dutch one-man band Wurgilnõ are preparing the release of their new album, Krijtland. The album should be released on 11th June via German label Fetzner Death Records. And let me tell you, this album represents a major evolution in Wurgilnõ's music.

Indeed, Krijtland marks a new chapter in Wurgilnõ's musical career. In this new album, Consanguineus delivers us Raw Black Metal. Throughout 53 minutes, listeners are plunged in a melancholic atmosphere. With fast guitars, catchy riffs, and powerful rhythmic blast beats, Wurlingo's music takes form. Sometimes, the music takes a slow rhythm before returning to its initial form.

Voor de eeuwigheid gehangen (my favourite track) serves as the landmark of the elaborate musical structure on this release. This song is nuanced and emerges as the album's highlight. Throughout the full-length the vocals are screaming and high-pitched. But, at times, they take a clear form as in the tracks 1928 and Het Wilde Heir

As a reminder, in my interview with Consanguineus, the musician mentioned that the album's title refers to a region situated south of Limburg in the Netherlands. And also the thmes are inspired by myths, legends, and stories from the province of Limburg, both the Dutch and Belgian sides.

I would like to add that certain melodies and vocals briefly reminded me, to some extent, of the Norwegian band Windir - don't ask me why-. However, Krijtland is another crucial album with an impressive vocal performances, varied musical structures, and rich thematic exploration. This album is a must-listen for fans of the genre.
