Chaos Insignia are a black/death metal band from Romania, formed in 2024. It didn’t take the band long to make a name for themselves. In 2025, they released their first EP, Mechatronic Carnation, and in 2026, they released their debut album, Crown of the Infernal Code, via Fetzner Death Records on cassette and via Cavernous Records on CD. The band’s musical style focuses on themes of science fiction, technological occultism and chaos. Today, I’m going to write about this debut album.
Crown of the Infernal Code is a 10-track album offering the listener a chaotic and raw sonic experience. Tempo changes are used to add nuance to the songwriting. The atmosphere is sinister and is evident right from the first track, Oblivion Forge Defiler. The sound effects also evoke a sense of a futuristic, cybernetic world, as heard towards the end of the track Molten Crusade. At the start of the track Codecrucifixion, I felt some influences of Morbid Angel; it reminded me of the cult album FFF.
The vocals alternate between growls and high-pitched screams, offering a more intense experience, particularly on the tracks Throne of Circuitfire, Dark Gate Opened and Ceremonial Extraction. But that’s not all: the vocal performance is bursting with energy, adding a touch of mystery. In my opinion, the vocals really stand out on the track Profane Firmware, where they blend well with the ritualistic atmosphere, and on Codecrucifixion from 0:56 onwards, where the vocalist lets out a powerful scream.
Among the moments and tracks I especially liked is the section on Molten Crusade from 1:34 onwards, featuring a powerful vocal performance. I also really enjoyed the vocal performance on Dark Gate Opened from 5:27 onwards, this part has a truly disturbing aura. The track Profane Firmware is one of my favourites on the album for its atmosphere and vocal performance, but also for its captivating rhythmic transition. There’s also Codecrucifixion, which I find excellent in every way. Then there’s Ceremonial Extraction, characterised by its menacing atmosphere, particularly from 4:11 onwards.
With Crown of the Infernal Code, the Romanian band Chaos Insignia deliver a strong debut album with a distinct, chaotic identity. It’s a direct album, combining raw violence with a blend of black and death metal set within a sinister cybernetic world. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed listening to this album on several occasions since its release.
